The black politician Carlos Santos and the challenges of the public and private life

This article attempts to visualize, through printed sources, analysis of speeches and intimate documents, the trajectory of Carlos Santos (1904-1989) in the political republican state of Rio Grande do Sul from the thirties to late sixties. It shows, from his appointment as a classic deputy until his assumption as governor, possible everyday situations experienced by the politician, who devoted himself actively in the struggle for social ideal of black identity and good policy. In line with this, we intend to investigate the importance he devoted to his family through the challenges posed by its public activities. We conclude that Carlos Santos juggled politics and family ties between the challenges of public and private life.
