The Pious Union of the Daughters of Mary in Conchas/SP
between the profanation and the romanization of countryside Catholicism

The present article aims to analyze how the Pious Union of the Daughters of Mary presents itself as an association in the countryside of São Paulo in the small town of Conchas. Understanding that the context of the ultramontane movement that was perpetuated in the first half of the 20th century is important, the proposal is to understand how the ultramontane movement becomes present in the Association and how they perceived the world around them. This point will be the object of our research, which is to investigate how the Pious Union of the Daughters of Mary participated in the process of romanization vis-à-vis the social, mystical and educational context of the antagonistic elements – sacred and profane – in the city of Conchas/SP.
