The purpose of the article is to discuss the issue of historiographical interpretation of the vision of the Indians in Portuguese America and analysis of how was the contact between settlers and the inhabitants of Portuguese America - discovery / finding, meeting / contact or invasion / achievement? The goal of such research is analyze this approach itself, and also that this process represented both settlers and for colonized. The research was divided into four stages. At first, we analyze the characteristics of the trip to Portuguese America, and the pioneering of Portugal these findings. In the second time, we did a survey on the issue of intentionality that trip, if the lands of the New World were already known or if this arrival to the new land was given without intention. Thirdly, we investigate how this process took place three perspectives: discovery / finding, meeting / contact and invasion / conquest. In the fifth chapter we situate the vision of the Indians in the Eurocentric perspective. To finish this research, we made a conclusion with a position in relation to this process as happened this complex approach procedure between Indians and Portuguese.
