ESHU IN THE MOVIES
AN ANALYSIS OF REPRESENTATIVITY
Keywords:
Eshu, Movie, Representation, Afrocentric PhilosophyAbstract
Throughout history, traditions of African origin have been misinterpreted by society instigated by racist interpretations that demonize or primitivize their practices. This misinterpretation is reflected in many national and international film productions. The objective of this article is to present four Brazilian productions in which the Orisha Eshu – Yorùbá deity present in the theology of some traditions of African origin – is portrayed, analyzed from the point of view of the Philosophy of Religions with an Afrocentric and decolonial epistemological basis. As a method I use Eshuneutics, proposed by Silveira (2020).
